Lyceum is existing to create professional leaders, and serves to lead. But that’s just not it Lyceum teaches us not only the knowledge but also the practical application of it where truth and fortitude should always go hand in hand.God centered students that is who Lyceans are. In this institution, we are taught to be competitive yet wholesome with regards to our values and attitudes.

For me, Lyceum of the Philippines- Laguna is one of the big steps that I’m taking because this is where I learned more about life. I learned how to stay Professional at all times without forgetting your moral standards when possible problems may arise.

As I will graduate after 3 years or less I have this great responsibility than ever before because what performance that I will be having will reflect on my Alma Mater. But I’m very confident that my school really did a great job on molding their students not only in academics but also with their values and attitudes.

First day as a MMA student. I knew in the first place that it would do satisfy me. The first meeting with my new Professors and comrades was a blast! The subjects are absolutely enjoyable.I can’t wait until year 2014 and become a Multi-Media Arts degree holder. Not to mention my dream someday to be called an alumna of “Lyceum of the Philippines-Laguna.”

Oh my goshhhhh! This was my reaction when I red this letter from Ms. Tenn Manabat, the Animation Producer of Cutting Edge Productions, Inc. Actually I submitted not to less than 20 companies here in the Philippines. I’m fortunate enough that eventhough I didn’t have any reply on the rest number of companies but I do have one and it’s the famous Cutting Edge. This is really Oh my gosshhhness moment for me! Haha.

Seiously, It was a great honor for us to interview Mr. Robert Quilao of Cutting Edge Productions, Inc. known for their “DAYO”. It is the first full-length digital animation Filipino film made for a period of two years using their paperless technology. This company is owned by the great and award winning musical scorer Mr. Jessie Lasaten.

Their office in Makati is in the Greenbelt Mansion building in its 5^th floor. While walking to their office, I’m very nervous because I will be the one who will interview their Chief Creative Director. Imagine that! Haha. But I do cherished every moment with that interview. Also I enjoyed the most the tour wherein I can almost sing “I can’t take my eyes off you” because those stuffs are really cool and amazing. Hopefully Lyceum would upgrade and invest with the needs of AB MMA students.

What I’ve  learned?

“Multimedia is produced when you combine text, images, sound, etc. “

That’s the literal meaning of Multimedia for the ones who don’t know it deeply. After one semester, I got to know the real meaning of Multimedia and that is divided into three. First, is your HAND that manifests the advancement of your skills. Second is your MIND that sets your mood and gives the right focus on what you want to achieve and especially for excelling in this field. And lastly is your passion for multimedia arts because if you don’t have the love or the HEART for this, time will come that you will give up because it is not what you want in the first place. 

ENGCAS. That’s what we are called. Clarence, Andrew, Gio, Cristel and yours truly, are shifters from the Home of Engineering to College of Arts and Sciences. The five of us didn’t know each other that well before; only in names and faces that’s why I’m telling you that we didn’t decide as a group to shift in MMA. It just so happen that we came from the same college.

The beso, hug, etc. Since I came from a different college, what I have there is a different environment. Honestly I’m not used to say “I love you” to my fellow classmates including the hugs, kisses and the beso thing.

I can clearly recall the first time that I encountered this scenario, when Yanyan greeted me with a “beso”. I just didn’t know what to do because as what I’ve said I’m not used to it. To be honest, that time I was teary eyed, I just felt love and it was something that I really never expected to feel. That day, I realize that CAS is truly the home where I should be in.

Down to earth staffs. Ms. Myla is the sweetest Dean I’ve ever known. She’s not practicing her power to be superior to everybody. She’s very humble and lovable that’s why all of the professors in CAS are very down to earth, humble and lovable too.

One semester may be too short but I do learned how to act as natural and of course in a nice in friendly. How did I know how? They taught me not only by words but also by deeds.

They are all friendly. They care about you. They love you. They are the people from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Unethical marketing doesn’t pay -Onibalusi

Ethical means patience. Impatience leads to unethical. This is what I’ve learned from Onibalusi’s Ethical Marketing vs. Unethical marketing. He pointed out that greediness for money and the lack feelings of “care” for their customers are just the two characteristics of unethical marketers. Since they wanted to get money and more money back they ended up in a dead air business.

INTERNET and ETHICS

Blogging. Blog is a shortened term for web blog. It is designed for people to express their freedom with what they want the whole world to know. With the use of this as a marketing strategy we should know that it is important for us to practice truth in blogging.

Scams and pyramid. Honesty is never the theme of our worldwide web. We should be aware that fraud is always stapled in the word internet.

Junk mail and Spamming. I bet many people can relate in this message box including me. Whenever I check my e-mail there would always be an unread message, and then disappointment would always be my next mood because I’ve been waiting for other mails.

THE TRUTH?

The way to consumers’ heart is to practice ethical marketing. Why? Because ETHICAL MARKETING is a two way process, it benefits the two people or group that is involved- both the producer and the consumer.

As a personal opinion, I do believe that our success depends on our motives. If you will sow good seeds for sure you’ll reap good fruits. In connection with ethical marketing, it is very important that we undergo in a right due process especially in marketing and advertising because it will always be us who will be facing the consequences of it.

For marketers and for future marketers, we should be responsible enough in practicing our expertise in here. We should remember that every word counts. Maybe we can pass through from the hands of the authorities but not with God. His judgment will include on the way how we practice our marketing techniques.

Marketing strategies can make or break the status of your company. A business can compete and win over other businesses if they have adequate wisdom and bright tactics on how to gain new customers and also to retain their loyalty. Last Saturday (August 3, 2011) we, MMA 2-1, attended a seminar entitled “Publicity- Updates and Innovative Ways of Keeping Up with the Evolving Marketing Practices”. The said seminar helped us to learn on how we will invest a competitive advantage. As what the speaker said “The Corporate World or the business world is like a jungle, you can survive if you are brave enough or you can quit and go home.”-Miss Vanessa.

We all wanted to be a survivor in different aspects of our life just like in business. For a business to be a survivor they strive on having a good corporate image, since a person perceptions and views to a particular company will continually change as time and events gone by.

To build good customer relationships businesses should have public relations program to win customers loyalty. These are the ff:

*Community involvement

*Sponsorship

*Environmental projects

*Participation in quality improvement schemes

*Good practice in industrial relations

Joining trade fairs would also help you to determine the markets potential clients by asking their opinions about your goods and services. Another benefit of joining trade fair is that you will be able to conduct a research and evaluate your competitors’ goods and services.

Presenting the “fake tourists”

One example given to us during the seminar was the Stealth Marketing of Sony Ericsson last year 2000.

When Sony Ericsson wanted to promote its hot new gadget, a cell phone that takes pictures, they launched an undercover campaign called “fake tourists.” 

Sixty actors took to the streets of 10 cities. They were irresistibly innocent looking, and they were seeking a small favor. 

“Excuse me, you mind taking a picture of us?” asks one fake tourist. “Thanks a lot, man. It’s cool, right?”

The undercover operation was the brainchild of John Maron, Sony Ericcson’s marketing director.

Undercover marketing can be sometimes considered unethical. This stealth marketing thing disappointed me in a way because the audience is not aware that they are marketed to, it’s kind of deceiving. I remember what I just learned today from Sr. Roque in Design Profession Laws and Ethics that we should always show and practice truth in advertising. After learning and hearing everything from the seminar, my advocacy from now on is to show the truth in advertising. Nothing less.

5. I’ll save a lot of money. Why should I consider an expensive vacation, when I can have a priceless staycation at my very own home with my loved ones? An expensive getaway will surely give me a lot of good memories and experiences, but still nothing can replace the quality time that you will spend with your family at home (just make sure that there will be no interruptions).

4. It is safer inside. Now, we are all aware that it is not safe to stay outside. Due to the incessant rain, a dengue outbreak was announced here in our country. No person can be exempted by this epidemic virus even if you have high economic status.  According to Ms. Imelda Asetre-Luna,M.D. the best prevention for dengue are to avoid staying outside at its highest biting intensity, 2 hours after sunrise and before sunset,  wear full body clothing, use repellents, use mosquito coils and electric vapor also during night time to avoid another disease caused by mosquitoes- the malaria.

3. Consideration for others. After recovering from dengue fever syndrome, I had complications. My white blood cells aren’t in normal number that’s why I got all the viruses in my surroundings. I was confined again for 5days and was placed in Cabrini’s isolation room. My visitors are limited. Children under 7 years and persons who I may exchange virus with, or persons who may exchange virus to me are not allowed to visit me. The doctor advised me to stay for more 5days at home so that I will not spread the virus and I could rest more. I may miss a lot of school works but I really have to be considerate for others.

2. Quality time with my family. Without hesitation I know that we all agree that this is one of the important things why we should stay at home. Time is more precious than anything that we can literally see.

            No matter how bad or good a person is, your family will always be by your side. So we shouldn’t regret any moment that we will spend with them. Friends may come and go, but your family won’t leave you, no buts, no hows and no whys.

1. To take care of Baby James. These past few days, James lost his appetite. He’s also suffering from diarrhea and vomiting. I maybe a Multimedia Artist at school, but here in our house I’m Personal nurse of my angel, James.

I had given him an oral rehydration solution that I learned from the internet and from the television. Since, we are now in debt because of my previous sickness we are not able yet to bring him to a doctor. I’m hoping that he’ll get well soon. I can’t focus now on any, but this Bible verse in Revelation 21:4 helps me to accept the temporary situation of our world or the temporary system of things.

The setting in here is when Jehovah God gives the throne to Jesus Christ, “The Messianic Kingdom” as what we pray in Matthew 9:10 “Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth. .”

Revelation 21: 4  “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

            As we wait for God’s Kingdom or God’s government, we all have to face these temporary hardships (Matthew 24:1-42). Since, this is really not the original intention of God for his people but to give the Paradise again to his human creatures (Luke 23:43) “You will be with me in Paradise.”

    We talk during class hours, we don’t ask permission leaving the room, we don’t have the initiative to arrange the chairs before leaving, yet she understands.

                We don’t grow as a person and we became dependent to MMA’s finest students—-is what she really don’t want to understand and accept.

The new grouping was made for MMA 2-1 to grow more; be mature enough and to know our responsibilities.

Ms. A gives real deadlines (no extensions). She gives routines tasks per individual and per group and gives real meaning to deadlines. Seriously speaking, deadlines are deadlines when we are to enter in the corporate world. All we have now is just a preparation for the real world.

Janelli, Louina and Nea. The big trio? Nah. Here’s the real big trio àAndrew, Ner and Mark (I admire them. Really.) . But why we should worry? Yes, they are the finest in the class, but we shouldn’t be afraid to also try to be the best. To bring out the best of what we have is the most important thing.

Back to my groupmates, as I observe them both. I salute them for having passion and for having a great artistic side. Louina is into editing photos and also in photography, I always give praises for her works. While Nea, I knew her back then during my engineering days. Actually she is one of the people who influenced me in ‘shifting’, she tell stories about being an MMA student. What I love about her is her great ideas and also her great editing skills.

All in all, I have no violent reactions against the new arrangements not simply because I don’t really have the right but also I truly believe that the selection of members per group is the wisest choice ever made in the same matter. I can say that we are now in the realization stage, that we are enrolled here to be professionally trained and that our stay in Lyceum is at its real worth. As we grew and mature and at the point of regretting, we have the instinct of saying “kung sana sinunod ko lang ang sinabi ng mga taong nagmamahal sakin…” I hope none of us would end up here. Learn from our mistakes and experiences. I hope that this would be a start of something new. A new MMA 2-1 for the better.

It is responsible for achieving operational excellence, developing new products and services, attaining customer intimacy and service, improving decision making, promoting competitive advantage, and ensuring survival.

Why is it essential?

Operational Excellence: HR Quality. Guiding the people behind your business as global competitive employees can be only achieved if they will equip them with the right and best knowledge in their own fields. Invest through seminars that will give them the prior knowledge in developing and improving their own selves for the benefit of the company. Promote a joyous and harmonious atmosphere inside and outside the work. By doing so, they let their employees enjoy the work they are unto and also they open the gate for their company in becoming a better enterprise.

Developing new products and services: Innovative. To expand is one of every business goals. They focus on the development of goods and services for it to be marketed well. As time goes by, market gives more opportunities and gives more potential target markets. Upgrading is inevitable. People always tend to try new and better things, from this reason this is why businesses keep on pleasing their customers with their new product works.

Attaining customer intimacy and service: Winning customers. Business would always give concern to how happy and satisfied their customers are? One form of their marketing strategy is for the business to create a connection with the customers by making the company open for comments and feedbacks. They make their selves open so that they will have the prior knowledge on how will they make their customers happy with what do they offer. Customers are always right. Businesses make developments and improvements because of them; because of them they make profit.

Improving decision making: Problem Analysis. Beforehand, it is a must in a business to first identify and describe the problems especially when it comes to performance standards. After pointing out the problem, facts must be all listed in order to analyze it well and also in order to give right wise judgment to it without affecting the quality, time delivery, and cost of products and services as long as time permits to.

Promoting competitive advantage: The firm. Advance and unique strategies of a company can make a firm leading than that of others. They must perform many activities like early processing of orders, calling on potential customers, assembling quality products and lastly by training their employees. A competitive strategy is the most important role of information system in a business it needs a lot of brilliant business concepts on how to withstand others and shine out from the rest.

Survival of the fittest. All business types’ small or large firms have competitors. They only differ with the concept of marketing and promotional strategies. Information Technology is also essential in surviving in the business world. As our technology advances, firms also must advance in their own big ways. Every business is made to satisfy the needs and wants of the customers, producers and as well as other businesses. If a business enterprise is having poor trading conditions or financial difficulties, sad to say but this is where they usually decide to end its business days.

Business as a war. It’s a long term use of marketing strategies and a long term wise decision-making. Businesses would always tend to compete to other businesses, there’s always a room for improvement.  Enhancements of goods and services are made to please the demands of the people as our world changes.

Business as a sport. It is always best to work with the best team. Global competitive businesses have the best set of staffs or the perfect set of human resources for every job per department. Building good relationships among members will benefit the growth of a business.

Know your business. First things first, the basic business concepts are what we to keep in mind and give importance to. The location, capital, business idea, sales and marketing, promotional strategies, human resources, and legal requirements are some.

Research. Before starting up a firm, a market research will be an advantage because you will be able to determine the wants and needs of the people in a certain place. Some of the questions you have to consider; Who will be your consumers? Age? Gender? Economic status? Working or students?

Advertising online. Online marketing is really risky. Why? Because some of the things you can see in the Internet may not state credible facts. It’s not always safe in believing and giving your full trust to strangers. And this makes online business to be more challenging. To get the customers trust is one thing they focus on. They posts good comments of their satisfied clients and they even post scanned transaction documents. The new form of marketing today is cheaper than having commercial ads on televisions. One more thing is that, it is customizable and can be viewed anytime anywhere. Most of the businesses today have online sites even though they have stores. Online viewing of goods and services is what the consumers preferred more today because of its flexibility and modernity.

High quality standards. The popular brands are more expensive because you can assure that they are meeting the high quality standards because before it goes out of the market it undergoes many products testing and had been approved and tested with regards to their quality expectations. The more the popular the brand, the more it is safe to use and this is one reason why most of the consumers are loyal to them through the years.

The importance of business insurance. Some prefer not to get insurance for their businesses even the small ones, one of their reasons is because it’s a waste of money and time. Having insurance is quite risky and costly but it gives a sense of security for possibilities of damages in the future. We’ll never know what might happen to us and to our businesses that’s why insurance is advisable.
